Hi John..
ive used the 746 for years for VHF on 2 and 6 meters, 2 meters is super
great for weak
signal and meteor scatter, I used 10 meters as a IF for my 220 transverter.
computer controlling is easy also, and simple easy to build CIV
interfaces for software to
track what freq. your on for logging
mostly, the rig has its own 2 meter RF connection and 2 others for HF
and 6 meters
separate ACC ports for HF and 6 together and another for 2 meters for a
foot PTT switch
and other things, a must while contesting
the only complaint was the SM-20 desk mic, but the duel radio SM-8 Desk
mic was better
a little more money but much better audio.
if you wanted just something for 2 meters and above you might wanta look
at the
IC-910H, i have one of those also, great on 1.2 gig.. and the SM-8 works
on that one
also with a quick switch on the mic between A-B
