I for one do not get on during the contests, or any other time for that
matter with the intent of being on one end of these openings. But when it does
happen I am as excited as the next guy and grateful to have experienced it.
But I put it in the same category as the meaning of life (42). Do you want to
wait around 24/7/365 for that one experience? That IMHO has little to do with
the contesting bug, or increasing activity in general.
I agree we need more activity and a resurgence of unique calls to work per
band, any band. Getting people to use what they already have in the shack is
the first step. Instilling the will to turn it on and operate and
then nurturing the passion for contesting at any level is something else.
I agree that HF contesting was changed for the better with the marriage
of the PC and internet based technology with the ham station. And the evolution
at HF seems to be accelerating while the VHF side seems to be stuck in the
mud. There is significant opportunity here if we make it known that change is
needed.
Enjoy the weekend all.

whoa,.... I think knowledge of these kinds of openings on these bands would
definitely attract casual ops, who, to my knowledge, don't have any idea these
type of contacts are possible!
I'm not against expanding the use of assistance, but let's not forget what's
really the fun part of all this!!!
