Dave,
I'm just glad you or your family or house was not hurt.
I know your pain EXACTLY. In 2010 I lost my big tower with my 2 best
antennas (100% hand built from scratch) for 50MHz and down into the woods
the tower went.
I felt sick..literally.
This was (I think) the 3rd tower I had ever lost in my life and that was the
magic number for me.
I just have low masts, pipes, rooftop stuff , stuff on my shed, wires in the
woods and whatnot now.
For now, I am too old to climb anymore (even if I changed my mind) though I
am a little younger than you.
I hope you can get a little rooftop tower or shorter tower or whatever you
like going for the bands you're most passionate about.
That's what I have done here. (full lineup on qrz.com)
No, I am not the loudest in my area anymore, but I get by.
Good health and safety to you sir. If you have gear for 222 still, I look
forward to your Tuesday night reports (even though I may never be on that
band, your passion for it is infectious)
