Several of you suggested things that got me looking at outside interference.
With a little trial and error I discovered about 3 S units of constant noise
with the outboard preamp on (but no S units with it off but audible to the
ear). The noise was traced to my WIRELESS WEATHER STATION. I am now hoping
that was the problem and now waiting for some poor lonely soul to come up on
432.100 for a test.
The weather station has no effect on 2 meters.
Thanks everyone for your help. Several other suggestions for station
improvement will be looked at also.
