I grew up in a city in WV, within a mile of two AM BC stations, one of
them with a 4-tower array, and for whom I worked while in college.
W8NJL, who was maybe 10-15 years older than me, was chief at the other,
a single tower with 1kW on 1470 kHz, and was one of may older hams who
took me under his wing. He had to replace the ground system for his
station twice. The second time around, he found the wire for sale on the
street a few miles away.
