    The old KLM 40's were the ones that people would  put 90 degrees out from 
the other antenna because of the interaction. If they  were on the same mast, 
it'd be easier to set-and-forget. Methinks you'll have  to constantly 
re-align both antennas when you're operating to minimize the  interaction in 
your 
current configuration.
 
    The boom length might not be the problem but the  element lengths. That's 
why Force 12 has an N-version with non-resonant  elements.
