It was for a suburban home that may have been a starter or even a
rental. This was 50 years ago, he was probably just out of EE school. It
was an example of solutions that aren't ideal or textbook, but that work.
As to your criticisms of N6BT -- ain't nobody perfect. Tom has designed
and sold some pretty good antennas, and developed some interesting ways
of feeding multi-band Yagis. His two entries in the well-done testing
that N0AX and K7LXC did 25 years ago came out out top. He also did some
very interesting designs for centerfed verticals with top and bottom
loading. More important, his self-published "Array Of Light" collection
of his writing for periodicals did a great job of teaching some of the
fundamentals of how antennas work, debunked the magazine advertising at
the time was wildly exaggerating the performance of their antennas. And
he published a lot of the tricks and techniques, AND many of his designs.
