TT: If you simply store the elements retracted, they're self-cleaning. No need to fix something that isn't broken. Simply run 'em in and out regularly. Like any moveable mechanical structure, if you let it sit, it WILL build crud. So move it! Much the same as the human body....use it or lose it.
