It looks like there may be a thrust bearing above the rotator.

There's no place to do this with a tubular tower, as shown in the
photograph...and there's no way to mount a rotator inside the tower, either.
Unless I've looked at completely the wrong photograph, the one I saw was a
2-section telescoping tubular tower with a bell housing rotator mounted on
top and a KT-34A on that.

If one is carful steel bars can be inserted into a crank up so that the
weight is no longer on the wire rope. Then the tower can be stayed. Of
course one can always stay the lowest section of a crank up anyway. I have
had a large crank up stayed now for nearly thirty years at heights of first
88 feet and 80 feet for the last two years. Of course once this is done it
is more problematic to take the tower down. Some crank up towers
manufactured by Westower of the UK in the past insisted on their large
towers being stayed.

The problem with adding guy wires to a crank up tower is that it applies a
downward force on the tower and the winch and cable may not be able to
handle these forces. Maybe you can find another spot for this vertical,
perhaps mount it to your house.

Hi all,
I have decided to add guy lines to my free standing tower.
I have 2 good points to tie to but the 3rd I need to make.
It will need to be some sort of ground anchor, and looking
for pointers.
My Tower is only 45ft wind up / tilt over in a concrete block
and has been up for over a year fine with a 4 ely tri-bander,
I would like to add a big vertical to the top so the reason for
the guy lines.
