Where did anyone every get the idea that there shouldn't be profit in ham
radio?

I assure you that the retailers and manufacturers of ham radio equipment
are hoping for "pecuniary gain."

You send your money out, equipment shows up in boxes, you put them together
and make them work, then operate.

QTH rental - virtual or physical - is the same thing, but someone else is
setting everything up, and just charging you to operate it remotely. It's a
simple concept, the control operator clicking on the transmit button, is
operation that is subject to FCC regulation, not the assembly and rental of
a station that came before your transmission.

I believe that this NOT being legal could be extended to absurd
circumstances. Whether operating from your rental home QTH or rent a
pavilion at a park for field day, then you're actually paying for a place
to operate, along the same lines as this product. If you pay for an
Internet and telephone connection, then can you not use it for ham radio
because Comcast or Verizon is making money off it?

What's NOT legal is commercials - "This is N4MB, brought to you by Carl's
Junior" would never work. But, if I were to call Elecraft over the phone
and tell them, "Send me a few of them K3's" and, of course, paid for them,
that's pecuniary interest in ham radio that is totally legal, wouldn't you
agree? Rental of K3's in a station, connected to the Internet, is simply
one more service that someone is offering to make a buck, just like, as
someone said, the rental of the Caribbean cottage station.

I applaud the venture for their ingenuity and entrepreneurial spirit, and I
hope they make a profit. This is not illegal, according to the most savvy
legal mind typing on this keyboard at this moment. But this is not legal
advice, I am not an attorney, and have never been in trouble with the FCC...
