I believe that the Telrex 40s were less than full length elements - that is
certainly true for the 40M329 (29 ft boom) and the 40M335. I have one of
each in the barn, and they both have shortened elements and a loading stub
for each element running along the boom. I have analyzed the elements using
the formulas/spreadsheet in Leeson's book "Physical Design of Yagi
Antennas" and the results convinced me to *NOT* put them in the air in
their original configuration - they just aren't very robust mechanically.
They may yet be built into something useful, but I think that the anecdotal
evidence of their original shortcomings is right on the money.
