Peter,

Yes, Mastrant has a Dyneema core but also has a woven UV protective cover which
the Samson pure Dyneema line suggested in a previous post does not. Dyneema,
and Spectra a similar modern fiber, are not very UV resistant. Although they
both are offered with a chemical coating for UV protection those coatings are
not as robust as a double braided polyester, or similar woven covering.

It's great that Mastrant has brought this line technology to the Ham Radio
market, but these high-tech fibers have been in the marine market for many
years and for good reason. High strength, low stretch, and light weight.
Stronger than steel, stainless steel in the marine world, and lower stretch
than the 7x19 SS that's the general standard in the marine standing rigging,
i.e., non-moving applications that hold up the mast/tower.

As always terminations, i.e., knots, splices, eyes, etc. are an important
consideration but that's true no matter the material. In the marine/sailing
world there are modern material options that could eliminate pulleys/sheaves in
wire antenna systems high in the trees for example. Modern chemistry and
materials offer a lot of tech that's prevalent in other markets that are
applicable to Ham Radio antenna applications and Mastrant is leveraging some of
that with their great products.

When I looked into this, the Mastrant ropes have a polyester coating that
provides UV protection, where the Dyneema rope have a finish and a much lesser
degree of UV longevity.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

<<< Why not try some Dyneema rope? A local turned me on to it and it is a
great product. Mastrant also sells their version. Not expensive. and a lot of
sizes rom different vendors. You do not need to go to DXE for everything.
