I have used a different color spray paint and hit the joints with the
paint, one color for each band. The only issue you may have with the
C3's is that the holes were not drilled at the same place at each
element. With a number of ownership changes maybe that was changed. It
appears they drilled the holes on the fly and got close but not perfect
so you may or may not be able to get the rivets in.

You can make the holes a bit oversize. It's not like you're worried about the tolerances getting sloppy in 10 years of wind induced movement.

Actually, what might be easiest is this: glue a thin ring on the smaller of the two pieces so that it butts up against the larger piece when it's inserted to the right length. Slide it in with a snug fit some turns of tape, and you're done.

Why put *any* fastener in. It only has to survive for a couple days, and duct tape will do that just fine.

You don't need hose clamps, screws, rivets, etc.

Your pre-FD prep would be cleaning up the elements a bit before assembly, throwing away that icky roll of tape from last year that's oozed over everything, and buying a new roll a tape.

the tent pole shock cord technique would work real well with this scheme too.
