I can't help but say:
My 80 foot tower and 32 sq. feet of antennas (about 700 feet of aluminum
I believe - 24 elements for H.F. total) is in my front yard!!
The beauty of it glistening in the moon light... The joys of country
living... :-)

AMEN!
I live in one of those older neighborhoods... Get this... I have a ham
who lives down the street from me, whos 40 foot push up mast is
literally in his front yard. You know why no one notices or complains?
Two reasons:
1) The trees are surrounding it, and they are taller than the mast.
2) In our neighborhood, everyone is either retired Doctor, Lawyer or
College Professor. (We're the anomoly)
When I started putting stuff up when I moved in last december, my 90
year old neighbor (A retired doctor) came over and asked if I was a Ham
Radio operator. He then proceeded to regail me with his World War II
stories of when he was a radioman in the army. For his stories, I gave
him an old J-38 straight key. He loved it.
To me... This is what the world should be like...
Unfortunately, I've lived in the other kinds of neighborhoods. My
last neighbor, had a pool and his teenage kids would scream out there
til 3 in the morning. He was usually the first to b1+ch when I did
antenna work, and talk about what a nuisance it was.

LJ,
It's called being a self-centered moron. There's nothing to understand.

Speaking of not understanding, I'll never understand the attraction
these
house farms...McMansion Hummervilles have for people. to me, all these
houses that look like they were popped out of an injection mold look
boring
and otherworldly, like a futuristic neighborhood where everyone has
chips
planted in their heads to insure they all think alike. Give me an old
neighborhood with trees, and houses all designed and built individually
any
day. There's something about being a ham that lends itself to
nonconformity so old neighborhoods are a good fit.
