You can model the insulation on the wire.
It would typically cause a 5% decrease in
Zo, not enough to explain the discrepancy.
The distance above ground has nothing to
do with the error caused by using an
unbalanced meter.

Could be true. I also should have added that the 14 awg wire has some insulation and, I don't know
if this matter, is twister multiwire. I don't remember what the wire is called but it is used as
"hook-up" wire in equipment. The "unbalanced network analyzer" is probably of
stronger influence but I just made it to see roughly where it was. It really was not of importance
for me as I didn't know the exact feedpoint impedance and was planning to use a tuner anyhow.
I didn't think the balanced to unbalanced could be of that much importance as
the feeder was several (~10) d - d distances above ground when tested.

My calculation of that line works out to 579 ohms.
Something doesn't add up here. Probably explained
by trying to measure a balanced line with an
unbalanced network analyzer. Or using a balun
you haven't calibrated out.

Sorry Ed,
My feed line is an open wire, 14 AWG with a 4" spacing. I believe it have a Zo
of about 400 ohm (I tested it by putting a 390 ohm resistor at the end and watching
the SWR as a function of the frequency.) I made the line myself.

And Hans,
Your feedline is not described in your response. While I am assuming it is
ladder or open wire feed, wound you mind being a bit more specific: maker,
model number, impedance, etc.
Thanks,
