In terms of restrictions, check the county codes (assuming
unincorporated). Most codes are on line. Many exempt amateur radio
towers from the far more onerous codes aimed at cell towers and other
commercial towers. Also look carefully for any regs that are for the
benefit of crop dusters, we now have one in WA that regulates towers.
In terms of hassles, that depends on your neighbors and other
busybodies. Permits and building within the UBC and county codes are
all good insurance against complaints.
And then anybody can sue anybody for anything at anytime as a local ham
here with a fully permitted tower has learned 6 months after final
inspection. He has won, but now appealed, and the defense is very
expensive.
Before buying my RA5 property (rural - agricultural 5 acres, mixed
residential, ag, and incidental business) I hired a local architect to
check the codes and talk to the county. The first two 89' towers were
easy. My third tower (140' raised eyebrows) did take a small amount of
lawyer time to get approved, I found a part timer that dealt with cell
and commercial tower permitting and she knew her stuff.

I would suggest that you get in touch with the county administration people
to find out about regulations and who the county engineer is.
The info you need may be on the county's website.

Subject: [TowerTalk] Advice on tower restrictions possible new home purchase
Hi all,
I'm toying with the purchase of property in Kansas.
The sight is plenty large enough for a tower or two.
But I've never done this before.
The property is rural, in farm country.
What do I need to do to assure no restrictions or hassles concerning
towers exist?
Thanks
Duane - N1BBR
