Tim:
For what it's worth, I lost two G-1000 rotors to wind storms. My 5
element, 20 meter mono band Yagi and a 3 element SteppIR, which are
mounted 12 feet apart on the same mast, were too much load for the 1000.
I replaced the rotor with a Yaesu 2800 some time ago and it has held up
just fine.
The attached image shows the broken planetary gear housing of one of the
failed G-1000 rotators.

Anyone have any insight into the difference between the
Yaesu G-1000 rotor vice the G-2800 rotor mechanically?
Also practical use/loading of a G-2800 ie type of antennas
it will reliably handle..........
Have had 3 ea G-1000's rotating boom lengths of 30ft or less and
windloads of 10 sq ft or less for 8 yrs with no problem here in
NW Alabama.
Looking at installing a M2 80mtr rotary dipole (94ft long 10sqft) and
turning with
the G-2800.
Tnx fer info Tim, AB4B
