I use a 66 foot low dipole, which I believe is adequately broadband for
the 40 meter band. Obviously, you don't want to use a vertical because
the polarization would be wrong for a Yagi. I happen to be on 20
acres, so all this is easy. Your friend could help, but he needs
to have a dipole on 40 meters, not a Yagi, because of the bandwidth
issue you mentioned.
