Towertalkans --
I recently built a 40m 4 square from telescoping aluminum - 4 ground mounted
verticals, phased with a Comtek box. Each vertical has about 60 radials, a
little thin in the interior of the array as of yet. The verticals are
mounted 35' on a side, and the power dumped into the dummy load is minimal
across the band.
Question - what sort of difference should I expect to hear on receive with
the 4 square vs a single vertical (not in the array)? Im not seeing much
apparent gain on most signals - does that mean the array is not working? I
do notice a good amount of directivity. I have not been able to do any
transmit a/b tests with remote stations as of yet.
If the gain isn't what it should be, what factors on the 4 square contribute
the most to gain?
