The method I was shown 20 years ago, and have used hundreds of times
since in my communications work involves a good cold chisel (for cutting
steel), and a 15-20 lb piece of steel with a flat side. Carry them out
to where you're working, and one good swipe with a good hammer will give
you a clean cut. The weight of the piece on the bottom need to be
sufficient to not move around, and a good quality cold chisel does the
rest.
