The soldering iron I have had since the 1960s does very well. Its what we used
at TEKTRO NIX when TUBES still reigned.
Made by Americal Electric Heater CO. in Detroit, AMERICAN BEAUTY , Catalog
No.3114, 110Volts 120Watt. The tip is .250 dia solid copper that we filed to
chisel tip. It was handy because I just used it to install some PL-259
connectors (AMPHENOL 83-1SP).
Current American Beauty site shows has 3114 listing but lower wattage, same .25
dia tips.

Subject: Re: [TowerTalk] Soldering Iron
A gun no matter how high watt isn't any good because the tip doesn't
have the metal mass needed for soldering a uhf male outside. You'll
never find the big irons at Lowe's or Home Depot. Berland's House of
Tools has the high watt irons you need, made by Wahl with large
massive tips. They aren't cheap and they take forever to heat up and
cool down, which is why I usually don't use mine. I use a torch
instead. Google Berland's House of Tools. It may be almost spring
in Peoria but up here we have at least 8 weeks.
