I have 2 new US towers here, and have owned others, all with the US Towers
bearing factory installed. Each of these has a concentric cam collar, in
which there are a couple of blind holes and another hole with a setscrew.
The setscrew is not there to hold any weight. It is there to keep the collar
from turning once it is cammed into position. You do this by driving the
collar around until it grabs the mast. The collar and bearing are not round.
The are egg shaped. When the collar is rotated, the hole formed by it and
the bearing gets smaller, squeezing the mast all the way around with
terrific force. You have to use a drive pin in the holes to keep from
distorting them when you bang it with a hammer. Then tighten the setscrew.
These are the safest and strongest type of bearing made, if they are
understood and installed properly, and I don't believe even a new one comes
with instructions.
Hope this helps.
