One of my favorites is an antifreeze bottle about 3/4 full of water,
with a tiny hole in the cap, tied by the handle. About 6-7 pounds.
Fill it full and it cracks the plastic when it freezes (unless you
leave some of the stuff in it, but why bother).

Surprising how well seven pounds on a rope through a pulley does.
Limits the strain on ordinary copper (non-copperweld) wire. And can
sometimes be seen bobbing up and down in a wind-storm.

Too much weight and you break the wire or possibly the pulley mount
(for me over a tree branch).

73, Guy.
