Ok,  repaired, per the suggestions by many of you.
Cleaned things up a bit,  exposed more shield braid,
then used Sctch. 33 tape to bind down a small shield
of copper flashing ( purchased at Dayton last year ).
Intended to use the copper strip as a ground buss for
in the shack equipment bonding strap -- haven't gotten
to that project yet,  hi.

Anyway,  no,  never could see any impact on use of
the line with the knick;  so probably won't see any 
delta with the shield splice in place,  but will probably
feel better about it now.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.  Oh,  I didn't
bother to add some sort of dielectric in the small gap,  just let
it be air.  Suppose the resulting impedance "bump" will
be zilch even up through 10 meters.
