My last post regarding a good portable DXPedition HF vertical antenna netted
many suggesting the use of the Cushcraft R5 10m-20m all band vertical.
Unfortunately, few were able to give me any die hard facts regarding the
vertical itself, just that it would be a good candidate. Thus leaving me
with many unanswered questions regarding it. If anyone knows some or all of
the following regarding the R5 please let me know.
1. How tall is the vertical when assembled?
2. Does a PL-259 connector connect directly into the base?
3. Does it achieve multi-band coverage through traps or some other method?
4. Should it load at 1.5/1 SWR or less on all bands with the aid of a build
in rig tuner?
5. About how long is the assembly time after the initial assembly (when all
the settings are marked, etc.)?
6. About how much would a good condition one run on the used market today?
7. How compact can the vertical get for traveling purposes?
8. How long are each of the radials that it utilizes?
9. How much PEP power will it handle?
10. How much will an assembled R5 weigh?
11. What is the wind survival of the antenna?
A heap of questions, I know, but any and all help is very much appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
