I had to look at a Hy-Gain schematic to understand your response. I thought
that the brake was separate high amperage wiring but it's tied in with the
motor. Hy-gain rotators still require a lot of conductors but only two need
to be larger.

Not really. Some of the Yaesu rotators are rated for motor current of
4+A DC (at maximum rotational speed and load). That's close enough to
the 5A AC of the Hy-Gain brake to make no difference in wire size
requirements.
