Hello!

Is there anyone using a Carolina windom on the lower bands, who made the 1:4
balun himself? I mean the "new version" using a coax up to the off-center
dipole. As the vertical part, the coax between 1:4 balun and current choke, is
also radiating, the balun should be non-isolating for RF, if I am right. So I
think the right 1:4 balun design is an important thing in that case. Voltage or
current type, 2 core guanella, iron powder or ferrite cores? I only found a
description for QRP. I am looking for a legal limit experience.
I know it is a compromise antenna, but it fits in my small lot, where the
support is off center, so I would like to give the antenna a try with a
homebrew setup with parts from the junkbox.
This type of windom antenna is not so common in EU. We had a "FD5" QRO windom
(160m version) with massive balun at DL0AO, but RF on the cable was always a
big problem. We burned several chokes, they just melted inside the coax, hi.

Thanks....Tom, DJ5RE
