Thanks George for the Q this morning on 160. It was rough going here this
morning. Due to the heavy rains we received from Hurricane Helene, a farmers
electric fence/s somewhere in an eight mile radius has been arcing sporadically
since the heavy rains hit.
I first heard you at 09:46utc, but only sporadically. At 10:57utc when you
answered my call the first time, the electric fence started making noise to
S9+10 and never heard your reply to my report. There was also a lot of deep qsb
at that time as well.
By 11:20utc your signal popped up out of nowhere, and remained continuous,
building through our contact, which was just at the beginning of grey line
here. I listened to you until you went qrt around 11:38utc (middle of my gray
line), and you were now an audible -7db s/n for several transmissions. Strong
enough for CW!
The antenna here is still a 6BTV with a parallel inverted L wire, ~25' vertical
and ~110' horizontal tied off to a spider beam pole at ~ 23' extended. The
horizontal wire has about a 2' sag after a year of being in the air in some
pretty high winds.
For on the ground radials, I have 12, 32' radials, 4, 66' radials and 4 135'
radials.
Thanks again for the contact a new DX entity in my TN location.
73 es GL DX!
