You were right, John. Garry, NI6T was also correct that the small
coil I was using had too low a Q and that I was tapped too low on
it. I replaced it with a high power roller inductor, about 9 uH, a
hamfest purchase from a year or so ago. To resonate it, I used a 10
ft piece of coax as the capacitance. That works.
So I'm using the circuit that Herb, KV4FZ, suggested. Thanks to all
for the help. We'll see tonight how well it plays (if there are any
signals on 80 tonight).
