Perhaps you recall an early ARRL handbook which recommended improving your
ground system by dumping salt and other mineral components into the soil near
the grounding point. Today you need to be careful that the EPA police don't
arrest you. Even laying radials in some jurisdictions require earth change
permits and in some cases public hearings.
Someday, especially with the advent of the internet, we can get a protected
species status for amateur radio operators.
