Jerry is right about power limits. Under the present rule limiting PEP
output, there is no point in running more than 100% positive modulation, or
much more than that anyway. As for the 1950s "ultra modulation" system, as
I mentioned earlier we had one at W1MX and to my knowledge we never got a
splatter complaint. I can't tell you, however, how much over 100% we
actually went -- probably not too much over, due to the tubes (pair of 304THs
modulating a pair of 304TLs), transformers and power supply. I just don't
remember, because I operated mainly CW then as I do now. I used AM only to
keep skeds.
