My OMNI V is now working again.
The problem was discovered when I put my frequency counter on the rig and
narrowed the problem down.
Even though the rig showed a frequency of 3.945 my counter it was on 3.166.
That is why the SWR would go up when the rig faulted.
Problem had to be in the 5.0-5.5 MHZ PLL Board or OSC/LO Board.
I found bad solder points when I took the board out the 5.0-5.5 PLL Board.
By hitting board I could make problem come and go.
At first I hit a few solder spots and put the board back but, this did not
work.
I went ahead and hit all the solder joints on the board and after an hour I
had it fixed.
The board had never been worked on before.
Came bad from Ten Tec.
I figure I saved the rig from shipping damage and saved me about $200.00
bucks in bench charges.
I would like to thank Phil K4DPK and John K4NP for help responses on the
reflector from them.
I would also like to thank Ten Tec (not) for the great choice they made when
they decided not to provide a service manual when thy made this fine rig.
Sure would have made it a lot easier if they would have thought to provide
it to those who could benefit from it.
Keep this for your service notes guys.
I hope it can help someone in the future.
73,
Dan/N4VET
