I don't have a 505 so I can't tell you for sure, but the 509 manual
has the instructions. When I did mine, I was lucky it was still strung
and I cheated. I tied a new stretch cord into the the loop around the
dial pointer in the old cord, ran it around the pulleys and fastened
it under the screw at the other end. I did make more work for myself
by removing the screw at the far end, removing the crimp on connector
used to hold it on, and putting the screw back.
Once I was sure I had it done properly, I cut the old cord off.

New word I coined 12/13/09, "Sub-Wikipedia" adj, describing knowledge
or understanding, as in he has a sub-wikipedia understanding of the
situation. i.e possessing less facts or information than can be found
in the Wikipedia.
