I'd probably never set it above 75. If you can hear band noise in the
background, it's plenty high.
Here's a 60-second method to gain adjustment:
1. turn RF Gain to 100 and tune in an s9+ station.
2. turn up AF Gain till it's VERY loud, but not painful. Leave the AF
Gain setting at this level, always - don't touch it.
3. turn down RF Gain till you can just hear band noise in the
background - adjust as necessary when you change bands.
This will provide very quiet reception with signals popping out of
silence - maximal audio dynamic range and minimal AGC action,
