The G5RV was originally designed to provide a less than 3:1 SWR for 80, 40,
20, and 10 meters. This was fine at the time it was designed since all
radios then had a tube final stage which allowed for matching the finals to
the antenna with the load and tune controls. The G5RV never provided a low
SWR on 15 meters. With today's solid state finals, a 135 foot center fed
dipole with open wire line and a tuner is a much better way to go as a 80 -
10 meter general purpose antenna. Just get the center of the antenna up as
high as you can get it and let the ends come down in an inverted V
configuration.
