Nope didn't think about it at the time. And too, just in case I destroyed
it, I didn't want any evidence of my fauxpaux to exist.
It is basically, on the inside, a segmented potentiometer. So the fault is
the wiper to element contact where the pads get dirty, just like any old
pot. No new rocket science here. As one fellow suggested, exercising it
might just fix it for a while. And of course one could squirt some of their
favorite contact cleaner, {you know the stuff that dissolves plastic when
it's not supposed to do so}, in there and do some good for a short time as
well.
