I just got a batch of old QST, CQ and 73 magazines from the 70's
and 80's. Interesting to look at the reviews of the older rigs
and to check out the ads. One I noticed in particular was the
ad for the Ten Tec Corsair I (possibly my all time favorite rig):
It claims the Corsair I has a "triple conversion receiver" and
it claims "Variable bandwidth plus Passband tuning."
Strange stuff. The "triple conversion" claim just doesn't make
sense, there are two IF's, one at 9 and one at 6.3 MHz, no other
conversion I can see in the rig.
The "variable bandwidth plus passband tuning" is sort of true,
though not by standard separate controls. (One could make
arguments that the PBT acts like a VBT when you have the right
combination of filters, but other manufacturers included separate
controls for such functions...as did the Corsair II, albeit at
the audio frequencies).
I am home sick with flu, feverish and sipping tea. These are
my random musings :-)
