Ten Tec Receivers

A general question regarding the above. 

Some folks are 'familiar' or have heard of the RX325 shortwave
receiver. Some may also be aware that TT made military receivers such
as -

SP230 - US Army
SP325 - US Navy

Anyone know of any others?

Anyone know WHY the military would want such a device or just what
use they put them to? Neither seems enough for a Spook radio. Either
seems to be too specialized for casual use and must of cost a
fair bit of money.
