Perhaps it would be feasible to install a separate regulator inside the
Scout, dedicated to powering the PTO exclusively.
National Semiconductor also offers the LM2940 in both 8 and 9 volt versions
( LM2940-8 and LM2940-9 ) .
If the PTO would operate at a slightly lower voltage, this might be a good
mod, and enhance the versatility of the Scout.
On the other hand it would seem prudent to first minimize all voltage
drops in cabling and connections before such presumptous modification was
inflicted on the innards of the fine Scout circuitry ...
A good test is to monitor the input voltage to the Scout at the aux power
connector with a DVM during key down 50 watt output.
This will tell you the voltage drops of all cabling and connections up to
the radio, and will also reveal the input voltage to the LM2940 regulator ...
