Rick, That axiom came from me. I'll dig out one if my omnis and take some readings. I didn't want. Scott digging into the PA just yet and subing a known working PA would have acknowledged he has trouble deeper into the radio Iam at work now but I'd check the emitter resistors on both the 2N3866s. And scott, did you check any of the semiconductors you took out ? Would like to know if the 2N3866 were open.
