The only thing about rice as a dessicant, is it swells up greatly when
wet. There are better chemical dessicants you can buy at HOME Centers,
where the chemical is used up but retained in a plastic tub like a
butter tub, until it and the moisture evaporates. Silica gel in woven
packets can be obtained, (check the Container Store chain), and is
recyclable by baking.
