One more thing, Steve. The OTs should have been grateful to have some
new blood in their midst.
When I was active with the local club, some of us OTs would sit around
and bemoan the fact that we couldn't interest any new licensees in CW
operation.
That also meant that they weren't interested in upgrading, because CW
was a requirement then.
I've already heard at least one complaint that a club didn't have enough
CW operators to man a station adequately, or that there was no CW at all!
Like DX, contest exchanges are short and sweet. If ragchewing is more
to your liking, there's plenty of room for that, but not usually during
FD or any other contest.
I hope things go better for you next year, whatever you decide to do.
