How do you get FSK to transmit without a PTT connection? I use MMTTY and cannot get it to transmit without using a COM port for PTT.

FSK requires only the TXD from a comport. In MTTY setup, under afc/atc/pll choose FSK, under the tx tab choose the comport used, and under the misc tab choose com-txd (fsk). A ptt connection is only needed for afsk, psk31, sstv and other soundcard programs. Select "fsk" from the mode selection on the Omni and that is about all you need to do, other than setting the pbt to 3 o'clock as per the manual.

PS No transitor type switching is needed, it is all done in the omni's fsk generator, again as per the manual and schematic.
