It's interesting that this discussion should come up when it did - a local
friend of mine who has owned several of the earlier Omni/Corsair series rigs
said almost the same thing as this thread in a conversation last weekend.
I've for a long time "daydreamed" about the possibility of Corsair level
performance (maybe without some "bells and whistles") in an analog rig,
perhaps with a DDS VFO, of a size range from the Argosy/Argonaut II/Delta II
format up to about the Delta. (Small enough to not take up too much limited
operating desk space but not so small as to have a cramped front panel.)
Another couple of items for the "wish list" would be 1) user serviceable for
reasonably technically proficient owners and 2) avoidance as much as possible
of potentially "unobtanium" parts. This is based on my tendency of if I like
a rig to keep it for a long time. Finally, 3) simple, straightforward, and
easy to use. Give me a knob for a function, not a multi-layer menu.
