Even more Pegasus thoughts(?).
1) Is the radio-based-firmware flash programmable? Or does it, like the
Kachina,
require a physical changeout?
a) If it is a flash prom, will TenTec make available the "spec" for
internal
radio control. This should really open-up the Pegasus to some
innovative programming.
2) Will TenTec make available the complete command-set for the computer-
based control program? They seem to have for the RX320 (witness
KF5OJ's
control program vs TenTec's) and I assume they will for the
Pegasus
but it would be nice to hear TenTec say so.
3) Does (will) the TenTec computer-based control program have the
"hooks"
(entry points) necessary to allow third party software (such as
loggers) to
interface with the Pegasus? Without these entry points it looks
like you
windup with two (or more?) programs vying for control of the
radio over
the single serial port.
4) The quoted specs on receiver performance seem only average (at best),
the price, though, is good: it gives TenTec a product to compete
with the
Yaecomwood entry level gear. Does Pegasus plus 6N2 give TenTec
the
"experience" to put out a really loaded, high end system in a
year or so:
160 through 2 meters (at least), great receiver performance,
truly
all mode, a control program with enough "virtual" buttons to
satisfy even
the Yaecomwood devotees, ... ?
5) Last. Kachina 505, TenTec 550; a random choice of digits by TenTec??
Maybe I'm turning into a conspiracy nut.
