You might also set an AGC slope of 1:10 to see if that helps. Use as little
RF gain as possible. I also have an MP and agree with Ray6's observation.

I suspect that you will get as many answers as there are responders, because
everyone hears differently. On 160 I currently use BW of 100 Hz, the 300 Hz
roofing filter, slow AGC and RF gain of 78 to 84 depending upon band
conditions. Some people like binary audio but it doesn't do anything for
me.
I can tell you, though, that my O2 runs rings around the Yaesu Mk V that we
have at our club station.
