I had something similar problem happen to my OII when I first received it.
It would go almost deaf. I changed antenna settings to antenna 2 and right
back to anetnna 1 and the problem never occurred again. So it appears at
least in my case that the antenna selection relay just had to be exercised a
few times and then everything was fine. It has been a year now since this
failure with no reoccurence of the problem.
