And to top it off, the encoder is a very cheap part. Supposedly TT had been
replacing them with a more reliable version. Looks like you won the
lottery. My condolences.

First time I ever sent a radio in for repair was for my Orion's RIT/XIT
encoder - I haven't checked the exact date but something like a year ago...
Now looks like the replacement has failed... Bad enough to have something
like that fail in the first place but a second time is unforgiveable....
