Cecil, the only reason Icom is making money is we have far too many people
amongst us who couldn't tell a good radio from a bad radio, from a pile of that
stuff laying on the barn floor.
Unless Icom completely redesigns its radios as Yaesu and Kenwood have done,
they are gonners on the high end.
Different story on the low end.
People who buy those aren't chasing performance.
You think the 7600 is a good radio.
I think it is a disgrace, compared to its real life performance vs the
marketing hype for what it is supposed to be.
There is enough measured data by Rob AND ARRL to back me up on this.
But if you don't need a good performing radio, fine.
And it you like it, then it is a good radio for you.
This was Rob's No. 1 point and I won't argue that. He's right.

I wouldn’t count Icom out... It’s about time to hear something from them on a
high end box.
I’m told it may be a Flex style rig with a front panel.
Right now their money radio is the 7600...it’s a decent performer and with a
nice feature set and good DSP performance. The 7700 while nice is too
expensive for having only one receiver but if it were any different nobody
would buy a 7800....
They still sell a lot of bottom end 718’s as well...
I can’t figure out where Yaesu is going....and in another year they may cease
to exist for all I know...

Icom and Yaesu are "has beens" in the up-scale market.
