Wow, this has been over-complicated,

For those who INSIST on not using their high-priced QSK, all you need do
is connect your foot switch to your amp. That is all that's necessary in
order operate exactly as if the foot switch was connected to the QSK
rig, if it had a PTT jack, and it in turn switched your amp into operate
mode. (Stone age).

Not using QSK to me is akin to several hams chatting with me in my
living room, and while I talk I stick my fingers in my ears, so as to
prevent them from commenting!
